Summary

Star Wars Jedi: Survivorsaw the story of Cal Kestis continue and take a very specific direction with his arc. Despite the game’s overall theme, it’s clear that there are still battles ahead for the character that may never end. Even if his journey does end inStar Wars Jedi: Survivor’ssequel, it’s likely that his story will still continue in some form.

TheStar Wars Jedigames primarily focus on Cal, who inFallen Orderwas a Padawan who survived the Order 66 purge.Fallen Ordersaw the character battle Inquisitors and further develop his abilities with the Force, which had been partially disconnected. In the sequel, Cal fought alongside the Rebellion, but it was also suggested that there may be another path for the character. That path would only be fully realized after his journey has been completed in a trilogy bookend.

Cal Kestis' Path In the Star Wars Jedi Games

Cal Kestis' arcs in both games are very different from one another. The first installment had the character play something of a hesitant hero role. He doesn’t necessarily want to get involved in the Rebellion or the remnants of the Jedi Order but finds himself swept up into it all the same. Theending ofStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Ordersaw Cal fully committed to the Jedi way and ready to take on the Empire.

His story in the second game was a little different. Five years had passed since the events ofFallen Orderand most of Cal’s former companions are trying to live a relatively peaceful life. A good chunk of the story involves these characters trying to tell the protagonist that he’s been fighting a bit too long and there are other ways to live. WhileCal Kestis will likely have to fight again in the nextStar Wars Jedigame, by the time the second installment ended, he seems to have been more or less convinced of this. Assuming he survives the events of a third game, it’s likely that his story will continue into another form.

The Later Path for Most Star Wars Protagonists

Protagonists in theStar Warsfranchise almost always end up transitioning into some kind of mentor role. Obi-Wan Kenobi, for example, was one of the main characters of theStar Warsprequel trilogy. Timeline-wise the character would go on to become Luke’s mentor in the 1977 filmA New Hope.

In theStar Warssequel trilogy, the main characters from the original films would act as mentor figures to the new ones. Luke, Han, and Leia would all serve as mentors to Rey and help her in her own heroic journey. NowRey is set to return for aStar Warsfilmand will likely move her to a master role herself.

By the timeSurvivorended, Cal Kestis was said to be around 23 years old. It isrumored that the thirdStar Wars Jedigame is already in the worksand if it does another five-year time jump then the character will be in his late 20s by the time his journey ends. While that age is a little bit young for him to move into a mentor role, there is also no telling when the character will appear next. It wouldn’t be a stretch to assume that he may start playing a mentor figure to a new generation of heroes wherever he opts to settle at some later date in the timeline.

While athirdStar Wars Jedigame being in development shouldn’t come as a surprise, there is no way to know what EA or Respawn has in store for Cal Kestis. The general disconnection he has from the rest of the franchise’s story opens many possibilities for the character and not all of them end in tragedy. Because of this, it is very possible that, after the third game, Cal’s journey may end, but his story of rebellion and survival may not.
