Destiny 2has become a hugely popular online shooter since its release back in 2017. With multiple huge expansions including raids, new storylines, and new loot for players to pick up,Destiny 2has kept a dedicated fanbase of players who are always looking for what developer Bungie will be putting out next. The latest release inDestiny 2’simpressive list of expansions is theWitch Queen, which brings all the new content aDestiny 2player would expect in a large expansion.
Bungie has also been looking to include some balance changes toDestiny 2alongside the release of the new expansion. TheVoid 3.0 updatebrings the first of many changes being brought about toDestiny 2’selemental subclasses. Yet, while there is plenty of upcoming updates and already released content forDestiny 2, it seems that Bungie is already looking towards its next step. SomeDestinyfans may be disappointed to see that Bungie’s next title could be a departure from the hit sci-fi setting.

Recent job listings at Bungie indicate that the studio behindHaloandDestinymay be looking towards a new IP. A Lead AI Engineer position refers to an upcoming unannounced project, though the real indicator that this unannounced project is not aDestinysequel is in the job description, which discusses candidates helping Bungie to create its “next enduring game IP.” There are currently a multitude of positions open at theDestiny 2developer, again indicating that Bungie could be coming up with something new.
Though it may not be anotherDestinygame, it seemsBungie’s unannounced project will have similarities with the studios' previous titles. According to various listings, the game will have “scalable online services,” indicating that it will be a live-service game, rather than anything entirely different fromDestiny. This means that Bungie could be borrowing much from theDestiny 2format, and creating a new setting to fit that style of gameplay.
WithSony recently making an offer to purchase Bungie, the investment from the PlayStation platform owner likely involved the production of a new project by theDestinydeveloper. WhileDestiny 2will remain available on Xbox and PC, there’s a likelihood that this new IP or unannounced project could end up as a Sony exclusive due to the recent purchase. Only time will tell what this project will be, though it seems Bungie isn’t straying too far from what it knows.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
