Bungie has committed to releasing a new quest forDestiny 2’sLightfallexpansion that provides details regarding a major plothole that left many players critical of the game’s campaign. The Veil is a MacGuffin at the heart of theDestiny 2Lightfallstoryline. It is whatLightfall’s villains, The Witness and Calus, want badly, and whatDestiny 2players must protect. Unfortunately,Lightfallnever actually explains what the Veil is. This newDestiny 2quest should correct that omission. The lack of information regarding the Veil inDestiny 2’sLightfallcampaign has been a major focus for criticisms of the expansion. While it’s not the sole criticism of theLightfallcampaign, given its importance in the events of the expansion, it’s somethingDestiny 2players often assign blame to.Lightfallreviews even plummetedinto Mostly Negative territory on Steam, with many pointing to the campaign as the expansion’s most disappointing aspect.RELATED:Destiny 2 Reveals Exclusive Root of Nightmares Raid Conquerer JacketBungie has clearly heardDestiny 2player frustrations. In the latest This Week at Bungie blog post, Bungie says it felt that it was “important” to give players a preview of a new quest planned to be introduced in the Season of the Deep. This quest will specifically explain “the nature of the Veil” by havingDestiny 2players review Osiris' research andnewly uncovered Ishtar Collective data.

In case anyDestiny 2players were wondering if this was always the plan, if Bungie is just trying to clarify the issue to players who were worried it would be left unaddressed, Bungie clearly understands the situation. Bungie has confirmed this quest is not going to require players tobuy the Season of the Deep season pass. The new quest will be released for allLightfallplayers and will remain available even after Season of the Deep ends. This is Bungie changing course based on player feedback.

Bungie is also planning some substantial rewards for completing thisLightfallquest. After completing its final step, allLightfallplayers will receive a new Legendary Weapon and three new Strand aspects – one for each class. Bungie has even confirmed their names. Titans will receive the Flechette Storm aspect, Hunters the Threaded Specter aspect, and Warlock will get The Wanderer aspect. These rewards will remain available even afterLightfall’s Year 6 contentends.

Providing new information regarding The Veil isn’t likely going to change players' perceptions of theLightfallexpansion. There will still be frustrations with Nimbus,Lightfall’s casual tone, the lack of progress in the Witness vs. Traveler battle, and Strand’s place in the story. What this will do is acknowledge the frustrations ofDestiny 2’s dedicated fanbase and provide those players that stick around with the answer they want. That’s more than most games will do. Still, players will have to wait for the Season of the Deep,Lightfall’s second season tentatively expected in late May, for the quest to arrive.

Destiny 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
