Ever since Sony acquired Bungie, it was clear that theDestinyfranchise andDestiny 2, specifically, have a bright and storied future ahead of them. With the release ofWitch Queenconsidered a big success by most measures, the company seems to be setting its sights on projects that aren’t directly related to the game, but may end up enhancing the franchise as a whole.

It’s no secret thatDestiny 2has hit its stride once more with the bigWitch Queenexpansion pack, but now that Bungie is backed by Sony’s multimedia powerhouse, it’s interested in doing non-gameDestinyprojects as well. Specifically, the company is now looking for a Senior Linear Media producer: a specialist that would work on non-interactiveDestinymedia and drive it forward.

Bungie’s new hire would need to work with the franchise’s creative leadership and with external partners to oversee production milestones and budgetary concerns, and to representDestiny"at the highest-quality bar," according to the listing. The fact that Bungie is hiring a new Senior Producer to work on books, series, and movies may be a major indication thatSony’s investment in Bungie was worth it.Destinyhas had a sizeable and loyal following for quite a while now, but the franchise hasn’t really stretched its wings all that much - yet.

To be fair,Bungie has been hiring TV and movie stafffor some time now, though it would seem that things are really ramping up on that front just now. Up until now, there wasn’t much information available on whom, exactly, could be handling the implied future projects, and this job listing means that Bungie is likely still in the early stages of planningDestiny’s expansion towards a moreHalo-like handling of external media, with proper novels, series, and more.

The truly fascinating question, then, iswhich stories and characters shouldDestinyfocus on, in broad terms. The franchise’s lore is filled to the brim with exciting, yet thoroughly unexplored stories. Lysander’s attempted coup in the Last City, the Great Disaster upon the Vanguard’s first clash with Crota, the Wolf Rebellion, and other stories could all be provided with the attention they deserve, and without derailingDestiny 2’s many, many ongoing narratives.

For example, it’s to be expected thatDestiny 2will probably explore The Witness' identityvia mainline DLCs, while animated shows, movies, novels, and anything else that the Senior Linear Media Producer would manage could focus its attention elsewhere. Whether that ends up being the case or not, however, only time will tell, and the only thing that’s known for sure is that Bungie and Sony have got big plans forDestinyin the future.

Destiny 2is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series platforms.
