Marvel Studios’Black Widowis finally going to theatres this summer. The film has been delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic and is now coming out over a year after its originally intended release date. Fans are eager to see a solo adventure focused on the deadly assassin-turned-Avenger, but until then, check out this cosplayer who bears an uncanny resemblance toBlack Widowactress Scarlett Johansson.
The cosplayer, who goes by ‘laurossbw’ on Tik Tok, uploaded a before and after video of themselves in the cosplay. She’s also wearing Black Widow’s new white suit, which can be seen in the trailers. A deadly KGB-assassin-turned-superhero, Black Widow, a.k.a. Natasha Romanoff, made her live-action debut more than a decade ago in the 2010 sequelIron Man 2, where she was portrayed by Johansson.

InIron Man 2, Johansson plays a disguised S.H.I.E.L.D. operative assigned to keep tabs on the always-volatile Tony Stark. From there,Johansson returned for the firstAvengersfilm, making her a founding member of the famous Marvel superhero team. Even though it’s taken over a decade for the character to get her own solo film, Black Widow has appeared alongside her fellow Avengers in other MCU films such asAvengers: Age of Ultron,Captain America: The Winter Soldier, andAvengers: Infinity War.
Sadly, Black Widow died inAvengers: Endgamewhen she sacrificed herself to obtain the soul stone, one of the six infinity stones that the Avengers needed to reverse the blip. Some fans felt that her death was unceremonious for a character who dated back to the beginning of the MCU. Black Widow was, after all, one of the founding members of the Avengers, and some fans felt her death should have been just as tragic as Tony Stark’s. Some even felt that her counterpart Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) should have been the one to make the sacrifice, but clearly, Marvel had future plans for the archer. It didn’t help that Natasha Romanoff was the only female founding Avenger and thatGuardians of the Galaxycharacter Gamora, another strong female MCU character, received the same death in the previous film.
While the MCU has a tendency to focus more on the male superheroes, they did finally have a female-led film withCaptain Marvel.Still, some fans felt a Black Widow movie should have come first and that the character had earned her own solo adventure. More than ten years later, Marvel is finally pursuing aBlack Widowfilm, which will have to be a prequel due to the character’s death inEndgame. The film is reportedly set afterCaptain America: Civil Warand beforeAvengers: Infinity War, exploringNatasha Romanoff’s complicated pastas she goes up against a new villain, the dreaded Taskmaster.
Black Widowis scheduled to be released on July 17, 2025, simultaneously in theaters and through Disney Plus with Premier Access.
