TheBlack Mirrorcreator David Brooker has written some of the show’s best and most visually stunning episodes. He penned “Metalhead,” which stands out since it’s a black and white episode. This was a smart creative choice that proves the bleak, dark, and terrible world that the three main characters have become part of.

WhileBlack Mirror’s “White Bear” is innovative, “Metalhead” is just as unique thanks to its compelling look. If was a colorful episode, that would feel wrong. The lack of color really emphasizes how lost and terrified the characters are as their world has been forever altered. Bella (Maxine Pearl), Clarke (Jake Davies) and Anthony (Clint Dyer) are living in a post-apocalyptic society. This vision of the apocalypse just might be the most unnerving yet. While there are no scary creatures or zombies ready to kill Bella and her friends, there is the weird feeling that something could go wrong at any moment. And with every step that they take, it’s clear that they have never been in more danger.

Like some ofthe scariestBlack Mirrorepisodes, “Metalhead” doesn’t pretend that things will work out okay for the characters. At the beginning of the episode, their friend Jack is going to die from an illness and he’s in a lot of pain. The three friends go to a warehouse and they think that they can find medicine for him. Instead, they come across robotic dogs who seem to be controlled by a dark technology.

Bella is all alone after Clarke and Anthony die in brutal ways. She’s a captivating character to continue to watch and was the right choice for the one survivor of this strange situation. Likeunconventional horror movie main characters, Bella does her own thing and has a cool personality. It’s clear that before the apocalypse, she lived a fascinating life and never let anyone tell her what to do.

TheBlack Mirror"Metalhead" ending is as surprising as the conclusion of every other episode of the popular Netflix show. Like the end of theBlack Mirrorseason 6 episode “Joan Is Awful,““Metalhead” finds the main character in a dire state with no way out.Black Mirrorexcels at putting characters through horrible experiences that they really can’t escape from. While some of the characters, like Bella, are intelligent and strong, they know that they can’t mess with the technology that is attempting to control them.

At the end of “Metalhead,” Bella is still trying to fight the terrifying robotic dogs. She attempts to stop a dog with paint, and when she can’t get a car to work properly, she takes refuge in the car and hopes that the dog won’t see her.Black Mirrorhas become famous for its plot twists. And these tend to take place in the final act of every episode. Without these kinds of wild reveals, the show might not be quite as buzzworthy and popular. While theBlack Mirrorepisode “Metalhead” doesn’t have the kind of twist that other episodes do, like thescary twist in “Playtest,“it’s still memorable.

When Bella shoots a dog, the dog hurts her leg. Bella becomes covered in shrapnel that has a tracker inside of it, which proves how dangerous this situation is. Bella can tell that she’s going to die and she tries to reach her family and friends through her walkie-talkie. Bella decides to take her own life as she realizes that trackers are all over her body, from her jugular vein to her face. The last scene of theBlack Mirrorepisode “Metalhead” is teddy bears falling out of a box in a warehouse.

Like the mostcaptivating thriller TV shows of the 2010s, every episode ofBlack Mirrorhas many scary moments. The show is unique because it brings up questions about technology, society, and human beings. “Metalhead” takes the idea of a guard dog on its head and asks what would happen if they began spying on people and killing them. And like other episodes of Netflix’sBlack Mirror, the results are horrifying and sad.
