Summary
Resident Evilgames are known for delighting fans with theirscary monsters, spiraling storylines and an interesting cast of characters that have become fond favorites. The gamesnever outstay their welcome, ending after about 6 to 8 hours, ending with the characters flying off into the horizon on a helicopter.
But not all endings are the same or equal for that matter, and the sign of a good game is one that enthralls its players even after the credits are done rolling.Resident Evilhas plenty of such endings, with Capcom finishing on a high or somber tone befitting of the game as a whole.
Like manyResident Eviltitles,Revelations 2has two possible endings players can achieve based on certain decisions they make. In order to get the good ending, players must switch to Moira in the third episode when going for the gun totake down the boss. This is the way to get everyone out safely and provides a glimpse into a normal and happy life that seems like only a dream forResident Evilheroes.
In the good ending, Barry and Moira heal the rift between them, putting an end to their strained relationship. Barry vows to return to being a father, including Natalia in that promise. Players are treated to the scene of a happy family as the Burtons prep for a visit from Claire, ending the game on a happy note which these characters definitely deserve, especially poor Natalia. She finally has a family to love and care for her.
The remake ofRE2simplified the different routes for Leon and Claire, allowing for amore streamlined experience, delighting many fans with the polish and care to detail, the newer graphics make the stalking Mr X even scarier as wherever the player treads, he is not far behind.
After escaping the Police Station and putting an end to the monstrous Mr. X and William Birkin, the pair make their way out of the lab and the city, walking towards the sunrise with the rescued Sherry, who makes a light joke about Leon and Claire dating, and that they can adopt her. It’s a nice happy note to offset the horror they and the player all endured together. It is only a shame Sherry doesn’t get her wish, as players know this is only the start for the two heroes.
TheResident Evil 3remake cut a lot of content from the original game, including the multiple endings, as the remake only has one. But in the original, which is still fondly remembered by fans, there are three possible endings players can unlock, with the good ending being arguably the best.
Players must make the choice to jump off the bridge when faced with Nemesis before reaching the factory, and then negotiate with Nicholai in the chopper. It seems likeall hope is lostfor Jill and Carlos with the missile drawing ever near, when another helicopter arrives to save them, with the pilot being Barry Burton himself. This victorious moment cements itself as a good ending, showing the unshakable bond between Jill and Barry, and hints towards future games as she vows to take down Umbrella.
Resident Evil 4was a tonal shift in the series, veering more towards action horror with a focus on gameplay andcampy dialogueright out of a cheesy action movie. The remake made changes to the overall tone of the game, but the story and subsequent ending were nearly identical, and both were considered widely successful by gamers and critics alike.
After putting an end to Saddler’s plans, Leon makes a daring escape from the imploding island on a jet boat with Ashley in tow, challenging players to one last mission as they must dodge falling rocks and explosions to safety. It’s a thrilling action climax that matches the rest of the game’s tone, ending with a feeling of success for the player. The remake even added another small scene involving the most popularResident Evilantagonist Albert Wesker, leaving the floor open for aCode VeronicaorRE5remake to the excitement of fans.
Resident Evil Villagewas Ethan’s swansong, wrapping up the storyline as Ethan attempts to rescue his daughter from the clutches of Mother Miranda and the Four Lords, who are attempting to use Rosemary to resurrect her lost daughter Eveline.
After spending the entire game facing the monsters running rampant in the village, Ethan finally learns the truth of his own existence saves his daughter, andmakes the ultimate sacrificeto ensure her safety. It’s a sad note to end the Winters' storyline, but it makes perfect sense for the character players grow to know and love. Many theorize that the figure walking towards the car at the end might just be Ethan back from the dead once more, dispersing the gloom of his loss.
