TheBattlefieldgames have always been about battling enemies in some of the most expansive settings, all the while featuring a varied assortment of weaponry and tools to help the player create their own unique war stories. WhileBattlefield 5reviewsmay not have been the best of the franchise,Battlefield 6may prove to be the turning point for the series and a return to its former status.
Fans of the franchise are currently busy speculating about the different possibilities as to howBattlefield 6could be an evolution of the formula, and one such rumor/speculation suggests thatBattlefield 6would include better destructibility mechanics. This has seemingly been hinted at by DICE, though that’s no promise either. While it remains to be seen how such a thing pans out, DICE should take the opportunity to make this a meaningful part of the gameplay loop and not just a gimmick.

Destructibility In Previous Battlefield Games
Battlefieldis no stranger when it comes to featuring destructible environments, and it seems that the franchise instead thrives on such a feature. The firstBattlefieldgame,Battlefield 1942,proved to be an influential title for its time, mostly due to the destruction feature and the large-scale battles. Later entries in the franchise would continue to build upon the mechanics, withthe Frostbite engineallowing for more possibilities for destruction in real-time, first seen inBattlefield: Bad Company.
Battlefield 4also features a popular map where players can take down a giant skyscraper in the center of the map, called the Seige of Shangai. While this might be a noble concept and one that did carryBattlefieldfor a long time, it seems that the next entry in the series needs to elevate the mechanic in an effort to renovate the series' formula.
Battlefield 6 Is The Franchise’s Debut On Next-Gen Consoles
Additionally,Battlefield 6will be the first game to be released on the Xbox Series X/S and the PS5. Unlike the competition and evenBattlefield’s previous releases,Battlefield 6may be be skipping cross-gen releases in favor of a next-gen-only game. This could potentially give the developer enough time to maximize destructibility within the game and make it an essential part of the experience, while also simultaneously allowing the physics to be as detailed and accurate as possible.
Battlefield 6rumorsalso state the existence of natural disasters such as floods, tornados, and storm to occur at certain points in certain maps. This could also tie into the destructible environments as they could seemingly catalyze such events, or outright even cause entire buildings to break down. This might pose a challenge with the implementation, as such events could ultimately turn out to be more of a hassle than something a team might use as a tactical advantage.
Regardless, Battlefield 6is ultimately a great chance for DICE and EA to reinvigorate interest in the franchise with new and innovative mechanics to up the ante for player-created chaos. Destructible environments have a lot of potential that can be capitalized upon, and fans are zealously waiting out for their speculations to turn out to be true.
