Battlefield 2042is both very similar and significantly different from its predecessors in the franchise, for better or worse. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of negativity surroundingBattlefield 2042at the moment, so it’s somewhat difficult to discern sincere criticism from general discontent. One recent idea in the community has gained some traction, however, as some are making requests for DICE to bring backBattlefield’s spawn select camera inBattlefield 2042.
Battlefield 2042players are pointing to a feature fromBattlefield’s past as something that EA DICE should be considering bringing back for the new game. Most recently used inBattlefield 4, the spawn select camera provided players a first-person look at the action while still in the transition before respawning. That way, players can see what’s going on while they wait to respawn or plot out where it’s best to spawn next.

OneBattlefieldfan explains how they and their friends used to use theBattlefieldspawn screencamera back when it was still available. If they died while pushing with a squad of friends, their friends would want to respawn with their ally. As such, their friend would tell them, “Hey, watch this from the spawn screen,” and would then charge toward the enemy with reckless abandon. The friend could watch the entire fiasco from their spawn screen as they waited to respawn.
Unfortunately, other users make an excellent point regarding whyDICEis unlikely to bring back the camera, even if it’s popular. That’s becauseBattlefieldno longer uses 2D maps for spawning; it’s a 3D camera hovering above the map. In other words, the game is already fully renderingBattlefield 2042from the spawn screen. Adding a second camera, requiring players' platforms to fully render a second camera perspective, would be extremely hardware-demanding and a technical mess to code around.
That brings up the subject everyBattlefield 2042player is likely already tired of hearing about, which is thatBattlefield 2042already has performance-related issues that need to be fixed. Introducing a feature that would likely compoundBattlefield 2042’s problemsisn’t particularly attractive at the moment.
In other words, the awesomeBattlefieldspawn screen camera is all but certain to not be coming back as part ofBattlefield 2042. If players truly want the feature back, they’ll have to persuade DICE to evaluate its reintroduction infutureBattlefieldtitles. For now, it may be best to just embrace those memories and then let them go.
Battlefield 2042is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
