Tales of Arisecould be getting some new content or a spin-off, if a recently filed trademark from Bandai Namco means anything. However, this bit ofTales of Arisenews comes with two caveats. Plenty of trademarks are filed by companies that never manifest, and while that seems unlikely to be the case here, stranger things have happened.

Secondly,Tales of Arise’s producer has previously stated that there would be no DLCor any plans for a direct sequel. Plans change, but this could also mean that this is something like a spin-off rather than a proper expansion of the story. It remains to be seen, but it’s an exciting prospect nonetheless.

On December 7, Bandai Namco trademarked “Tales of Arise Beyond the Dawn” with the EUIPO (the European Union Intellectual Property Office). With many curious as to what this means, it’s worth pointing out (thanks to Reddit user xselene89) that this was filed under Gaming, so it’s unlikely to be something like an anime. It seems more likely to be apseudo-sequel spin-off, something more akin toTales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World.

Many are hoping that this trademark suggests fans will learn about this atThe Game Awards, though this is unlikely. It’s not impossible, but it’s not likely to see an IP filing take place the day before a proper reveal. What’s clear, though, is the very idea of moreTales of Arisecontent is welcome. Not only didTales of Arisereally bolster the franchise and establish its own community, but it proved itself as an excellent RPG in its own right. This made the initial news of new DLC or sequel plans a bummer, but it does seem fans are potentially getting something. And that is more than enough to light a fire under its fanbase, given the popularity of the title.

As we wrote in ourTales of Arisereview, it is a “game designed for long-termTalesfranchise fans and those who have never picked up a franchise entry before, where story, combat, and various features come together to deliver a high-quality, highly-detailed JRPG. All of that makes it not just one of the best JRPGs on the market today, but one of the best games hands-down.”

Tales of Ariseis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
