Summary
Baldur’s Gate 3is the highest-rated new video game release of 2023 and just recently won Game of the Year at The Game Awards, but it has an annoying oversight in split-screen that still has yet to be fixed. Like Larian’s previous games,Baldur’s Gate 3gives players the chance to experience the entire adventure with friends.Baldur’s Gate 3not only supports online co-op, but it also has a split-screen option as well.
In a day and age when split-screen and local co-op options in general are largely a thing of the past, Larian deserves props for implementing such a feature inBaldur’s Gate 3.Baldur’s Gate 3split-screen co-opis available in almost every version of the game, though Xbox Series S gamers have been left out due to technical reasons. However, there is still hope thatBaldur’s Gate 3split-screen will come to Xbox Series S at some point down the road.
It remains to be seen ifBaldur’s Gate 3on Xbox Series Sever gets split-screen, but something that hopefully stands a better shot at being implemented is a way to toggle off the names that block the mini-map for player 1. For some odd reason,Baldur’s Gate 3split-screen places the gamertags, profile pictures, and muted mic icons for those currently playing in the top-left corner of the screen. This blocks theBG3mini-map and make an already-busy screen that much more cluttered. It also blocks tutorial messages and other helpful information. These icons genuinely serve no purpose when playing the game in split-screen.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Should Let Players Toggle These Inconvenient UI Elements
After digging throughBaldur’s Gate 3’s settings, there doesn’t seem to be a way to make these names and icons go away. One workaround mentioned in online forums is taking one’s console offline, but that is not an ideal solution. With how many updates that have been released forBaldur’s Gate 3since the game’s wildly successful launch, it’s surprising that this has yet to be addressed. It’s possible that most people playingBaldur’s Gate 3co-op are doing so online, and so this isn’t a pressing issue.
Larian Studios has released multipleBaldur’s Gate 3updates, fixing bugs, addressing fan feedback, and in some cases, even adding new content to the already-massive RPG experience. Larian won the Game Awards for Best Multiplayer and Best Community Support on top of Game of the Year, so hopefully a toggle for this annoying oversight when playing the game in split-screen is added sooner rather than later.
