Summary
The first post-launch update forAssassin’s Creed Miragehas arrived, and many players are discovering that Denuvo DRM has also arrived as well. For many fans, the addition of Denuvo will likely be an unwelcome one as the system has a very checkered and controversial history within the games industry. There’s a long history of performance related issues associated with Denuvo, including a high profile incident withShadow of the Tomb Raider where the game actually performed much betteronce the tool was removed entirely.
At late addition of Denuvo to a game isn’t uncommon as the recentSoulslike Lies of P also made the controversial decision to add the DRM toolto the game right before release. While the game has ultimately garnered plenty of praise from both critics and players, the decision certainly came as a surprise as the anti-pirating software has also been known to make modding much more difficult, something that is very popular with the PC crowd.
After installing the latest update forAssassin’s Creed Mirage, players have discovered that the controversial DRM system from Denuvo has been added. Outside of it being Denuvo in general, the major issue fans have with the reveal is that the system was brought online with the Day One patch which ultimately launched well after all of the major reviews went live, essentially avoiding a way for it to be called out and highlighted. Fans viewed this move as sneaky, and it may have even altered purchasing plans for some had they been aware of it prior.
What’s also a bit odd is that the Denuvo addition isn’t actually included within the day one patch notes or outright acknowledged by Ubisoft or Denuvo at the time of writing. However, the addition has been noticed unofficially by users over social media likeTimo Schmidt on Xas well as new Reddit post starting to appear. Either way, the addition lines up with a pre-launch leak after a user dove into theAssassin’s Creed Miragegame files and included references to Denuvo. While the news hasn’t sat well with players, it has been noted that the overall gameplay hasn’t suffered to this point as tests have proven that the game performance remains the same as it was prior to the update.
Outside of the Denuvo addition, Update 1.0.2 does make a number of gameplay improvements and quality of life changes including preventing elevators from outright killingMirage’s protagonist Basim. Numerous quests were also updated to fix potential progression blockers, NPC animations have been fixed, and much more.
