Hollywood has started a recent tradition of letting a legacy actor return to a role and put a button on their tenure before passing the torch to the next generation. During an interview withComicBook.com, Banderas was asked if he would be interested in returning to the role he made famous for a whole new generation of moviegoers. In Banderas' case, after seeingHolland’s turn in the recentUnchartedadaptation—in which Holland takes on the role of modern pulp adventure Nathan Drake from the popular video game series by Naughty Dog—he thinks he’s found someone to pass the mantle to. “Yes, I would, I would consider that possibility, why not? If they called me to do ‘Zorro,’ I would do what Anthony Hopkins did for me, which is to pass the torch,” Banderas said.

The Zorro role is associated with Banderas not only because of the hit 1998 movieThe Mask of Zorroand its sequel but because Banderas has voiced theZorro-inspired Puss in Boots for several animatedShreksequels and his titular spinoffs. The animated films are a crowning jewel amongst the actor’s resume and his image among moviegoers. The Mask of Zorrois a story in which the original Zorro, played by Anthony Hopkins, to protect his daughter played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, passes on the title to Banderas' outlaw to become the next generation’s hero.

Holland is a megastar not only for his turn as Peter Parker in Sony’s recentMCUSpider-Mantrilogybut for his time in the greater MCU as well (including a return trip from the land where Blipped characters went). He has recently shown he wants to expand his adventuring chops and did so in the firstUnchartedmovie, and Sony is looking forward to several sequels.
