While it’s true that a season focusing on a cult could have been set at any point in time, it was a good idea to focus on the 2016 election.
There is a final showdown between these two characters that is gripping and impossible to look away from. When Kai leaves prison with another cult supporting him, he goes on a terrible and offensive TV rant during a political debate that Ally is part of. He points a gun at Ally’s head but Beverly Hope (Adina Porter) murders him before he can kill Ally. SomeAmerican Horror Storyscenes are too intense, but while this one is tough to watch, it feels meaningful and important. It proves that Kai is one of thebestAmerican Horror Storymain characters. He has horrible beliefs and does whatever he wants, and he’s able to influence everyone around him.
After Ally’s political dreams come true, she tucks her son Oz (Cooper Dodson) into bed and attends a group with other like-minded women hoping to make a difference. This is a brilliant ending that suggests that could be another cult, which emphasizes the theme of the entire season that anyone can be influenced to be part of a movement.
