AEW: Fight Foreverwas originally meant to launch at some point by the end of this year, but as many fans may have already assumed, the game’s release date has now been pushed back to 2023.AEW: Fight Foreveris the first traditional video game release for All Elite Wrestling, and it is banking on nostalgia, opting for a more arcade-style approach that is more in line with classic Nintendo 64-era wrestling games.

While it didn’t have a title at the time, it didn’t take long after AEW’s formation for the AEW video game to be announced. The project has been in development for years with Yuke’s, the studio that previously worked on WWE’s video games. Former AEW World Champion has been involved with the game’s development, as hasWWF No MercydirectorHideyuki “Geta” washita. Whether that translates to a high-quality product remains to be seen, but fans can check out the latest gameplay trailer and judge for themselves.

It seems PlayStation may have jumped the gun by publishing the newAEW: Fight Forevergameplay trailer, as it was originally meant todebut during the Full Gear pay-per-view broadcasthappening at 6pm CT on November 19. The trailer shines a spotlight on various AEW stars, paints the game as a throwback to the glory days of professional wrestling games, and shows footage of an in-game Lights Out match between Britt Baker and Hikaru Shida where thumbtacks are used.

Besides thumbtacks,AEW: Fight Foreverwrestlerswill be able to attack each other with baseball bats wrapped in barbed-wire, fire extinguishers, bowling balls, skateboards, glass bottles, steel chairs, and more. Needless to say,AEW: Fight Foreveris embracing an over-the-top style of gameplay, and it will be interesting to see if it pays off.

The wide variety of weapons aren’t the only way thatAEW: Fight Foreveris leaning hard into absurdity. Reminiscent of games likePokemon Stadium,AEW: Fight Foreverhas a suite of mini-gamesfor players to check out as well to get a break from the core wrestling action.

Noticeably absent in the latestAEW: Fight Forevergameplay trailer is CM Punk, who was previously the game’s cover athlete. TheAEW: Fight Forevercover is nowhere to be seen in the trailer, which could be a strong indication that CM Punk is being removed from the game. This has not been confirmed at the time of this writing, but if true, one has to imagine that Punk’s removal from the box art could potentially impact the game’s sales. Punk, for the uninitiated, was involved in alegitimate backstage altercation with The Elite after the AEW All Out pay-per-view eventthat saw everyone involved suspended. Punk is not expected to return to AEW television, but he is still technically under contract with the company at the time of this writing.

AEW: Fight Foreveris scheduled to launch in 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
