Mediatonic’sFall Guys: Ultimate Knockoutis notable for its unique premise, blending the battle royale genre with obstacle course game show elements, as well as its user-focused social media presence. Before the game officially releases on August 4,Fall Guysannounced a last-minute beta testbeing held this weekend, and one player has gone the extra mile of using literal jelly beans as a controller while streaming the game.
Rudeism, a 29-year-old game designer and Twitch streamer from New Zealand who advertises himself as being able to “turn anything into a controller,” talked aboutFall Guyson Twitter July 26 and asked what he should build to play the game. The officialFall GuysTwitter account dared him to use jelly beans, in reference to its characters that can wear outfits like aHalf-Lifeheadcrab pre-order bonus on Steam, and after showing off his creation yesterday Rudeism took to using it for six hours this afternoon.

In a clip of the “mad lad” taken by theFall GuysTwitter account to advertise his stream, Rudeism explains that each of the 11 jelly beans are wired to a circuit board and send off signals when he touches them so he can move, change the camera angle, jump, dive, and grab things. As of this writing, he is planning to go back toFall Guyslater today to try and secure a victory.
TheFall Guyssocial media has been very active since its release date was announced last month, both spreading memes and dropping beta codes for interested players to grab. During a recent Reddit AMA, Mediatonic employees also said they wantFall Guysto recreateRocket League’s successby releasing for free through PlayStation Plus this month.
It’s hard not to be interested in capturingRocket League’s success, as the multiplayer title rose to prominence thanks to a mix of great gameplay and accessibility. In fact, the racing soccer game will likely be even more popular going forward, as developer Psyonix announcedRocket Leaguewill become free to play this year.
That being said, as much as the PS Plus deal will undoubtedly helpFall Guysreach a larger audience, it may not need a huge push to become the next big thing in gaming circles. During its first beta test,Fall Guysbecame the most-viewed game on Twitch, and that passionate audience has clearly not faded away if Rudeism is any indication.
