While fans have not completely written the title off, its live service approach with the inclusion of a battle pass, in-game store, and a need for online connection even when in single-player has opened up a door of controversy. As the downsides are already evident, there is a variety of aspects that could potentially damage the title’s reputation further which developers should look out for.
5Repetitive Combat
Based on its first gameplay reveal duringPlayStation’s February State of Play event,Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League’scombat stood as one of the main issues for some fans with some suggesting similarities to thepoorly receivedGotham Knights. A large majority of the combat showcased revolved around gunplay and much less of any hand-to-hand combat, and while it was inevitable given the different characters, it is vastly different from Rocksteady Studios' previous Batman-centric games.
While each character certainly has their own unique set of combat maneuvers and finishers, it could become monotonous and less engaging depending on how it is executed. Given the massive amount of disappointment in regard toGotham Knights' combat, developers must ensureSuicide Squadavoids the same fate by keeping its combat system evolving throughout the game.
4Too Much Comedy
Given the comedic dialogue that is present among each main character within different adaptations of the Suicide Squad, this is almost guaranteed to play some part in the game. Despite this certainly befitting the dynamic among the characters, Rocksteady Studios' developers will do well to maintain a balance of seriousness and fun simultaneously.
Comedy has been one of the biggest gripes for content around superhero movies in both the MCU and DCEU and whileSuicide Squad: Kill The Justice Leagueis within a different medium this time around, it must not overdo its level of comedy, especially coming off the back of the Arkham setting from previous titles.
3Grind System
One of the biggest issues a similar titleGotham Knightsmade was maintaining a leveling-up system that kept players doing mundane tasks andchecklists in order to unlock ‘momentum abilities’ or the ‘Knighthood’ traversal abilities. GivenSuicide Squad’s live service-like approach, many fans fear that this title will receive the same treatment rather than adhering to a single-player,narrative-driven experience.

Based on theArkhamseries, this appears to be a step in a different direction for Rocksteady Studios as the previous trilogy did not contain any form of loot mechanics, in-game purchases or store, and a battle pass. IfSuicide Squadcan avoid a long and repetitive looting system and keep this to a reasonable standard, it will most certainly benefit the title in the long run.
2Same Enemy Type
Just asBatman: Arkham Knightintroduced new enemy types in the aspect of their attack patterns and abilities,Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice Leaguehas a template to work from. One of the main components that enabled theArkhamtitles to flourish in the manner that they did, was the evolution of the brutal and hard-hitting combat that players could pull off while also facing different levels of challenge in the countering system.
While it could be argued thatSuicide Squadis a completely different title entirely compared to the previous beat ‘em up titles, many fans anticipate developers to implement a variety of different enemy types. This will be a beneficial backup in light of the game’s combat potentially disappointed players as aforementioned.
1Lack Of Justice League Appearances
As it is incredibly vital that this title focuses on the Suicide Squad members and the dynamic between each of the characters, it is also important that the Justice League heroes receive a good amount of screen time. Despite the fact that they are essentially the villains on this occasion given the circumstances of being controlled by Brainiac, it is a great opportunity for Rocksteady Studios to showcase how brutal and vicious they can be when on the other side of the fence.
Based on all released footage in the lead-up to release so far, this seems to be one of the strong points of the title with Flash mostly appearing among the main cast. In order forSuicide Squadto maintain the momentum and success of theArkhamtrilogy, it is crucial for the Justice League to play a major part throughout the title and not just in the aspect of boss battles alone. Despite the negative reception so far, the potential for an enjoyable experience is very much still present, and players will more than likely be intrigued to see howKevin Conroy’s final performanceas Batman will play out before the end credits.
